Help! I Can’t Read the Channel Guide on My TV
Four Great Ways to See (or Hear) the Guide
All ready to watch the Vikings, but can’t read the Arvig WiFi TV Channel Guide to see when the game starts? Maybe you plan on watching a movie this evening, but the titles are a little too blurry to make out as you scroll through the guide from the couch. Whether it’s bad eyesight genes, a disability or a gentle aging transition shifting your vision, not being able to see the guide diminishes your viewing experience. Fortunately, there are some great options to solve this.
1. Make the Guide Talk
If you have visual difficulties seeing or reading the on-screen TV guide, turn on Arvig’s audible voice guide for WiFi TV, and hear a voice narration of selections.
What the Voice Guide does
- Channel and Program Selection – This allows you to make a selection by using the channel up/down keys, entering the channel number or making a selection from the on-screen guide. Then, the audible voice guide will announce the channel and program information for your selection.
- Display Channel/Program Information – As you use the guide, the selected channel and program information is enlarged for easier viewing.
- Playback Functions – Playback buttons are also announced, so you know when you are hovering over the right one. This includes playback functions like play, pause, rewind, fast forward, stop and record.

Enabling the Voice Guide
Instructions are a little different depending on the device you are using to access Arvig WiFi TV.
How To Enable the Voice Guide on Amazon Fire TV:
- Go to the Home screen and select Settings
- Select Accessibility
- Switch VoiceView option to On
How To Enable the Voice Guide on Android TV:
- Go to the Home screen and select Settings
- Select Accessibility
- Switch Talkback option to Enabled
How To Enable the Voice Guide on Apple TV:
- Go to the Home screen and select Settings
- Select General
- Select Accessibility
- Switch VoiceOver option to On
2. Get Some TV Glasses
Have you ever wondered why drug stores sell a plethora of inexpensive glasses for close-up work, or “readers,” but not any glasses for distance viewing? They may not be available at the store, but affordable distance glasses for viewing TV are available online. At $14 for two pairs, you could leave a pair of these specs from Amazon on the end table to be on-hand next time you need to check the on-screen guide.
Alternately, you could update any current eyewear to a no-line bifocal, which would allow close-up viewing like seeing your phone screen, and distance viewing, including the TV across the room.
Ask your eye care professional which would be a good option for you, and the strength needed for distance vision based on your current prescription (expressed as a negative number). Our vision changes over time, so if it has been a while since updating your prescription, perhaps now would be a good time to do that.

3. View the Guide on Your Phone
Our phones are great for talking and picture taking. But they can also be an assistive device to zoom in on screen images for easier reading. Since your Arvig WiFi TV account is available on multiple devices, you can zoom in on the channel guide, even if you plan on watching your show on the big screen. Arvig WiFi TV works with your favorite streaming platforms: Amazon Fire, Android and Apple; on your favorite streaming devices: computers, smartphones, tablets and TVs. View this list of supported devices, and download the app for Android or Apple.
4. Splurge on a Bigger TV
If viewing screen details are difficult, maybe it’s time to buy a new TV that is larger. The price of big screen TVs has come down, while the quality has gone up, with crystal clear screen details. Look for one that is at least 1080p resolution. Now through January is the best time of year to buy a TV, or any electronics. Between Black Friday, holiday sales and after Christmas bargains, you have plenty of time to pick up a big, beautiful new TV to view all your favorite Arvig programming, and see the guide better.
