Arvig Provides Funding for Park Rapids Downtown Business Association Webcam
Arvig and the Park Rapids Downtown Business Association (PRDBA) announced their partnership to keep the area’s popular Downtown Webcam in operation. The webcam overlooks Main Street in Park Rapids, Minn., allowing interested current, former and seasonal residents to live stream the community’s daily activities. Arvig’s donation covers the costs to keep the webcam operational and available to the public.
Along with viewing day-to-day life in Park Rapids, visitors to the website can enjoy viewing several downtown events like the Main Street Christmas tree lighting the Friday after Thanksgiving, the Fourth of July Parade and Trick-or-Treat Park Rapids.
“Since 2010, the Downtown Webcam has been the main attraction on our website. Some viewers have told us they look at it daily. Seasonal residents from nearly every state in the United States check the webcam to see what the weather is like, sometimes fascinated with how snowplowing on the extra-wide street gets done. Others enjoy watching our community’s special events,” said Lu Ann Hurd-Lof, Program Coordinator for the Park Rapids Downtown Business Association. “We want to extend a huge thank you to Arvig for partnering with us to sponsor the webcam for the community!”
“The Downtown Webcam is something a lot of people enjoy and we are happy to be a part of providing the service to everyone,” said David Arvig, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Arvig. “Especially when we think of people who cannot attend city events in person, because of this webcam they can still participate and view Park Rapids’ daily activities and biggest celebrations from home.”
According to Hurd-Lof, as the most frequently visited feature of the PRDBA’s website, the Main Street webcam received 172,731 pageviews from Jan.1 – Sept. 6, 2019. You can view the webcam on the Park Rapids Downtown Business Association’s website by visiting parkrapidsdowntown.com.
